. . . FERGUSON TEAM

The Ferguson Dancing Team was formed in the late 1940s from members of the Slough Scots’ Society.

In the past they have entered the Highland Games’ Competitions at Harpenden and Richmond as well as other County Dance Competitions held at Tilehurst, Croydon, Brent and Slough.

The Team was formed by Miss Jessa Ferguson, who was its instructor throughout its existence. Miss Ferguson has devised many dances that have only been performed by the Ferguson Scottish Dancing Team.

In more recent times, the Ferguson Dancers have not performed in competitions but they continued to dance at the Society’s flagship events – St. Andrew’s Night and Burns’ Night. They mostly danced 4 couple Scottish Country dances but also performed Highland dances.

The Team also performed at outside functions – Burns’ Suppers, fêtes, weddings, birthday parties, dancing at Old People’s Homes and even in front of Royalty – HRH The Queen Mother!

The Ferguson Dance Team has now been disbanded and its last performance was at our Burns’ Night on 31st January 2009.

Members of the Society still occasionally perform country dances at functions and fêtes.
